Leather has been a cornerstone of man’s development and civilisation from prehistoric times right through to modern day. It’s thought that ancient man first used dried animal skins to make clothing, footwear and shelter as well as using plant based fibres.
Today, we often use leather as more of a fashion statement – with belts, handbags and shoes, however, there is nothing better than moulding a piece of leather with your hands and creating your very own pouch or knife sheath for example.
Leather is natural, durable and a great replacement for plastic in the right circumstances. It can be enhanced with vegetable dye colouring and can be carved with intricate patterns to create something truly unique.
The ability to fashion leather remains as useful today as it was for early man and still has a place in the modern world.
