Like has been mentioned elsewhere, the likelihood of us ever needing to make a net for survival is very remote.
However, making a net is merely a progression of simple techniques to build competence and confidence in handling cord – not dissimilar to knitting, crochet or macramé.
It is a skill that, once mastered, can be taken in different directions with a basic net that becomes a shopping bag as much as a fishing net, a luggage cover or a gate-net, something to support the pea-plants in the garden or a dream-catcher as a craft piece.
Net making is an ancient art closely connected to self reliance, it was a key skill for many people. It involves cordage, knots and some tools that you can carve for yourself with very little effort.
